PDC’s shrink sleeve systems are used in numerous pharmaceutical and personal care products. One of our specialties is customized equipment for sleeving pharmaceutical and medical devices. This employs PDC’s engineering, automation and integration skills. ### **The PDC Technical Team** The PDC Technical Team is staffed with mechanical and electrical engineers trained to interface with engineering teams from line integrators and specialty machine builders. PDC began as an automation company, and this technical foundation allows us to create the unique manufacturing systems required for your specialty products. In the video below, we walk you through a fun shrink sleeving project, a teeth whitening pen, that we recently completed which is a great example of how we customize each sleeving project for the specific needs of our customers.   **The Product** These teeth whitening pens are perfect for last-minute touch ups to make your pearly whites shine bright. The pen is a thin, plastic tube that houses a peroxide-based whitening gel. When used as instructed, these pens will help improve the color of your teeth by removing leftover stains on each tooth's surface. Often, these types of whitening products produce visible results immediately after the first round of use. ## **The Shrink Sleeving Process** Sleeving of the whitening pens was part of a larger, full production line. To start the shrink sleeving process, the unassembled cylindrical barrel itself is presented vertically in a fixture, “four up”. Four pens are sleeved, one at a time within the fixture. From there, the fixture continues into a dual zone heat shrink. Utilizing [a dual zone dry heat tunnel](http://www.pdc-corp.com/shrink-tunnels/hot-air-infrared-radiant-shrink-tunnels/), the pens first pass through radiant heat followed by convection hot air, directed at very specific areas at specific temperatures. The result: the final product with a perfect, distortion free label! The first step to enticing your customers is a beautiful package.
