Manual and CNC Lathe Operator



Operate manual and/or CNC lathe to perform a series of machining operations such turning, boring, threading, facing, drilling, and tapering on round bars and machine programming where necessary.

Work from blueprints. Determine the correct cutting tool to use to achieve required dimensions. Must be able to measure using micrometers and other associated tools; be able to hold tight tolerances within. 001.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual and/or CNC lathe equipment
  • Operate hand tools as needed in a safe and efficient manner
  • Choose correct tools to achieve desired product finish, based on material and other specifications
  • Read and understand drawings, and be able to hold tolerances to. 001 required
  • Perform routine maintenance

Education and Experience Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience running lathe equipment

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, schematics, etc.
  • Work with programmable HAAS, CNC lathe machine
  • Ability to properly use micrometers, and calipers and tape measures to determine tolerances required Ability to calculate using fractions and decimals as well as identify radii required
  • Familiarity with cutting tools; their applications and uses; and other tools associated with lathing equipment and machine work
  • Standing/sitting requirements: standing up to 100% of the workday
