Assembly / Field Service Technician

PDC International Corp., located in Norwalk, CT engineers, manufactures and distributes machinery for applying Heat Shrinkable Tamper-Evident Seals and Sleeve Labels worldwide to customers such as Kraft Foods, Johnson and Johnson, Proctor & Gamble, Unilever, and Nestle to name a few. PDC also fabricates both Hot/Air & Steam Shrink Tunnels.

The technician will be positioned at PDC’s Norwalk, CT Corporate Office.

Job Description

The technician will be primarily be on site and be responsible for building sub-assemblies based on drawing and 3D models to be assembled into completed pieces of equipment. As well as mounting and wiring electrical components such as motors and sensors and testing and finalizing the completion of the machinery.

For field service, the technician will be required to travel and provide support to customers. Will need to be able to troubleshoot and maintain PDC equipment. Field service work will account for roughly 10% of the position.

Job Skills and Qualifications

  • Previous work with custom mechanical assemblies, 5 years of experience preferred
  • Ability to read and properly interpret engineering drawings
    • Both mechanical assembly drawings and electrical schematics
  • Attention to fine details
    • Fitting of precision parts with critical dimensions and tolerances
    • Verify conformance of critical parts with use of precision measurement tools
    • Marking up engineering drawings as required
  • Ability and desire to assemble, test, and debug complex electromechanical systems
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, no assembly line work
  • Proficiently and safely use a variety of hand and power tools
  • Needs to follow assembly standards and safety procedures
  • Ability to work as a team with multiple departments and be willing to adapt to varying workloads
  • Ability to work within project budgetary guidelines and schedule
  • Motivated self-starter; position requires considerable initiative and ingenuity to assemble, fit, and modify custom parts
  • Will assist and/or conduct Factory Acceptance Tests with customers to validate equipment
  • Position requires physical ability to support project tasks ranging from equipment positioning and alignment to equipment skidding and wrapping for shipment
    • Must be able lift 75lbs as required
  • Basic computer skills, primarily using Microsoft Office and to view and print assembly drawings
  • Clear and positive communicator
    • Communicate project needs to direct manager
    • Will interface with in house Engineering, Manufacturing
  • Service work will account for roughly 10% of the position
  • Willingness to travel locally by vehicle and primality along the East Coast by plane
  • Able to work long hours depending on the circumstance
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to the situation
  • Able to provide customer support and troubleshooting over the phone when not traveling
  • Maintain good customer relations
  • Must document and summarize reports after all service visits

Compensation:

  • Hourly, rate based upon experience
  • $75 Per Diem when traveling
